Lazariston
“
opened
”
for
the
first
time
in
June
of
1992 with
music
events
organized
by
the
Municipality
of
Stavroupoli
and “The Other Side”. The
imposing
ruin with the strange name and the undefined history had the chance to be promoted more and more while the voices for its exploitation were increasing.
At the same time, its yard because of its innerness was a great opportunity for various events. Every year during summer the
Municipality
of
Stavroupoli
was organizing a special festival with the ruined building at the background reminding the necessity of its transformation to a modern cultural centre.
1993 – 1994
Great
concerts
with
famous
Greek
artists
,
such
as
Pix
Lax
,
Xaris
&
Panos
Katsimiha
,
Dionisis
Savvopoulos
,
Vasilis
Lekas
,
Dimitis
Sgouros
,
Elli
Paspala
.
1995…
The
unit
“
Days
of
Music
”
presented folkloric
music
. All this time, the Festival of Moni Lazariston matured keeping always its
particularity.
1996…
There
are
no
events
taking
place
,
as
the
renovation
of
the
building has started.
The
old
building
was
restored
and
a
new
part
was
added
with
theatrical
stages
,
halls and offices.
1997…
Moni
Lazariston
opened
officially
with
the
presence
of
ministers
,
members
of
parliament
and
the
local
self
-
government
at
a
concert
of
Eleutheria
Arvanitaki
,
which
had
free
entrance
and
over
6.000
people
that
attended
it
.
Most
of
them
visited
Moni
Lazariston
for
the
first
time
.
Their
impression
was
the
best
possible
.
The
building
’
s
size
and
impact
determined
its
future
.
1998…
The
Festival
was
repeated
under
the
new
circumstances
.
The
yard
’
s
re-operation was combined with a lavish program and thousands of attendants. Great artists were present such as Mikis Theodorakis, Yorgos Dalaras, Dionisis Savvopoulos, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dimitris Mitropanos, Petros Gaitanos and others. At the end of that year, the cultural organizations called to revive the building, started being settled.
