MOTEL SELENIK

Motel (noun): A place of temporary hosting; a necessary stop, in order to proceed with our journey. It is usually located on a highway.

Example: Honey, we have been driving for ages and I am very tired. Why don' t we find a Motel to spend the night?

Selenik (unkown): We ignore the defintion. We hope that it means Thessaloniki, in a very local dialect.

Example: Ok, let's stop at Motel Selenik.

Merely by coincidence, a group of 16 young musicians met in Thessaloniki and formed a prototype band called Motel Selenik. Having as a common reference the sounds of the Greek traditional music, the compositions and generally the sound of Motel Selenik is characterized by the fusion of the musical traditions of the Balkans and the Mediterranean, incorporating contemporary musical elements. The diversity and the number of instruments are augmented with sophisticated orchestrations to produce a rich but bright sound, hosting a special combination of flamenco, balkan, swing, rebetiko, latin; always having its doors open to new sounds and ideas, however.

The music of Motel Selenik has been used for the documentary "Thessaloniki in a different way" of Christos Nikoleris, produced by N-orasis, and several TV spots, such as the spot of the Festival of Moni Lazariston and the action "The port in a different way".

Through a series of concerts in significant venues and festivals within Greece and abroad, the band has achieved very good critics, as "its sound creates even bigger expectations for their next step", according to Parallaxi Magazine.
