Brass Band Fest

From the middle of 19th century, the philharmonic orchestras are an integral part of the music scene and the social fabric of the capital to the frontier area, firstly because they participate in more events of the country, also because they are recruited by their own citizens. Beyond their participation in religious and national holidays, the philharmonic orchestras can present a demanding repertoire of every era and style, making it an important way of musical expression.

In order to introduce thiw aspect of their action MoniLazariston Festival hosts this year some of the most active brass bands: Philharmonic Orchestra of Kalavrita, Philarmonic Orchestra of Ampelokipi - Menemeni, Philharmonic  Orchestra of Pavlos Melas and IRIS, Philharmonic  Orchestra of Kalamaria, Philarmonic Orchestra of Doxato, Philharmonic Orchestra of Eginio, Philarmonic Orchestra of Pella and the Brass Band  “Kukluxsax”  of Municipal Conservatory of Thermi.

Philharmonic Orchestra of Kalavrita

The Philharmonic Orchestra of  Kalavrita has emerged in 1926, participating in national and religious holidays. Since then, the process is inseparable from the cultural route of Kalavryta in the historical process.

Conductor and director of the musical parts of the municipality is since 1995 Mr. George Bamparakos and musicians supporting the Philharmonic come mainly from the town of Kalavryta, thus continuing the tradition created by previous generations.

Today, the Philharmonic function sections brass and woodwind, and percussion and involved 50 musicians from the region of Kalavryta Municipality. The Philharmonic, takes place every year in events (concerts, competitions, Happenings, etc.) both in Greece and abroad, thus promoting indigenous artistic activity.

Philharmonic Orchestra of Ampelokipi-Menemeni

The philharmonic orchestra of wind instruments of Ampelokipi-Menemeni is a multi-ensemble consisting of 70 musicians and 20-member volunteer nursery. A common feature of the members, are the love and the passion love for wind orchestra.

They have participated  in festivals in Greece and abroad such us the cultural CULTURAL SUMMER festival held in Slovakia and in Hungary in 2011 where they were awarded the “Szent Mikulas” heraldry . In the summer of 2012 he won the 1st place in the international contest bands “Diffwinds festival” in Luxemburg , etc.

Philharmonic Orchestra of Kalamaria

Thirty-three years of intense and creative contribution completes this year the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kalamaria. The expression of love of the citizens for the music and the solidarity of the municipality, quickly revealed a remarkable ensemble which counts more than a thousand concerts in Greece and abroad.

In the most remarkable of these include appearances at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, International  Film Festival of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki International Trade Fair, participation in two documentaries greek state TV (ERT3),  eighteen entries in the International Youth Band Festival Municipality of Delta, the concert in honor of Mikis Theodorakis (presence of the composer) and concerts in USA, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Philharmonic Orchestra of Kalamaria since November 1991 is  directed by Giannis Koukas. In the preparatory orchestra teaches Anastasios Danailidis.

Saxophone Orchestra KUKLUXSAX

Perhaps is the only pure saxophone orchestra in Greece. "Kouklouxsax" are an open community "lovers" of the saxophone  of every age, level and aesthetic. Based in the Municipal Conservatory of Thermi, the Kouklouxsax seek to share their art with the whole world and especially to those who -for different reasons- not have access to conventional concert halls. Collaborations like this with Lukianos Kilaidonis, the group “Club de Belugas” and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival signify their nine-year activity.
