Moni Lazariston Festival at Womex 2012

The participation of Moni Lazariston Festival at Womex 2012, the most important music exhibition wordwide, is a pleasant coincidence as the organization takes place in Thessaloniki. Womex is a point of reference in world music.Moni Lazariston Festival states three goals with its presence at booth 6.65: the presentation of Moni's Lazariston outdoor theater, the highlighting of the festival and its intention on development, renewal and cooperation.

During the past two decades the festival has hosted major artists from greek and international music scene, along with the promotion and presentation of native greek artists. In 2012 the festival hosted 50 events with 500 artists, attended by over 30,000 spectators, which is the best proof of its success.

Moni Lazariston Festival writes it's own history for many years, playing a key role in the cultural life of the city by taking advantage of the multiple features of the “Moni Lazariston” complex. The complex covers an area of approximately 20,000 sq.m. There is an ultra-modern large theater (700 seats) and a smaller one (200 seats).

The open theater of the complex has a capacity of 3,000 people, and hosts various events as part of the " Moni Lazariston Festival." The courtyard  also embeds the recently formed “Small stage” a ‘special edition’ of every music expression whith a 400 seat capacity. In addition there is a two-story parking space, with 150 spots for guests' convenience. The National Museum of Contemporary Art is based on the old part of the monastery complex and hosts the largest exebition of Russian's avant garde outside Russia the “Kostakis collection”.

Every year at the open theater of Moni Lazariston some of the most successful concerts take place. Alongside with the Festival's concerts there are also other units based in dance, theater, visual arts and other events for children and young people.

Moni Lazariston Festival proposes a small, selected group of greek artists based  in the city of Thessaloniki(Sleepin Pillow, Lemonostifel, Motel Selenic, Ekmek, Tsitsani's Angels, Metamorphosis). Their music is characterized by openness and future. For that reason they could be promoted in an international music platform. This choice is a symbolic move to the potential local music and artists.

Moni Lazariston festival is organized by the non-profit company of Moni Lazariston Lazaristes, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Religion affairs, Culture and Sports, the municipality of Pavlos Melas and the Region of Central Macedonia. From 2011 to 2015 the festival is incorporated in the Operational Programme Macedonia-Thrace NSRF and funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund).
